I wanted to check here before posting on a Truck Forum. I am looking at a 2005 Z71 4WD 4-door crew cab with 230,000 miles. It is a one owner. I am asking as it has the same 5.3L V8 motor similar to my 03 yukon 5.3. Does anyone own one or know if this particular model is reliable? I understand it has 230,000 miles and I don't expect it to be new condition.
Appreciate any input.
Thanks!

When you replaced the oil O-ring did you move the motor from the truck? Or did you remove the 4wd axles, oil pan, and using a cutting wheel cut the lock tab off the oil pickup tube?
I rebuilt the 5.3 on our Yukon in 2019. At that time of rebuilding I removed motor from the truck. Trying to understand if I had to.
Thanks

I own a 2005 Tahoe Z71 and love it. That mileage, while a bit high, it is an average of 15K miles a year which is not much for some. You will likely see oil leaks at the oil and trans cooler lines and maybe some seepage at the weep hole on the W/P. You have been told about the transmission. I would be curious if you will get any previous repair or maintenance paperwork. O2 sensors age? Last time all fluids have been changed? Etc......

I just pulled the bolts out of the diff mounts and let it hang free. Then dropped the oil pan out, i never had to cut anything off the engine. I then removed the small bolt and pulled the pickup tube out of the pump. With a lift it would have been easier, but i did it with the truck on ramps in 20 degree weather.

I will look at the fluids. Will look at the areas you mentioned. I understand the water pump weep hole as I looked at an 04 chevy truck at the Chevy dealer and it has moisture under oil pan. It was leaking anyifreeze. One would think dealer checked it over.

Unless it is puking, a dealer will likely never mention a weep hole leak. Some guys have no idea about the weep hole and others never inspect as much as you and I would.
