If you do get a new belt, save the old one and keep it in the vehicle. Even a new belt can fail and having the old one that you know works for you, even if it squeaks, could be a lifesaver for you.

Great idea. Now I regret trashing my old one.

Prob done already but i use some sand paper as the motor is running and just touch the ribs with sandpaper and then the flat side also. My 01 used to chirp like a mofo when new. Chevy replaced alt and all pulleys/tensioners at 5000 miles, no shit...still chirped squealed whatever... idiots didn't replace belts tho. I got annoyed that every time it rained or was damp out truck sounded like some old ass hooptie...so i broke out some sand paper and its was gone instantly.....gotta be really careful tho, rip your shit up.

Hell with rubbing anything on a running engine. I crushed kitty litter and dropped it into the belts. It absorbs the oils and cleans the pulleys.

Interesting. Would sprinkling baby powder do the same? It'd be easier.

good suggestions i'll toss the whole cat in there next time I start up the Silverado, should solve the squeak and the transmission problem all in one, lol

I've had to help my neighbor more than once to replace or reinstall the belt on his wife's Explorer after the cat got caught in it when she started it in the morning. The cat was ****** up, but always fully recovered.
