I have a 99 yukon sle 4x4 with 137,000 miles. My problem is when from a complete stop when I accelerate the rear (i think) makes a chirping noise, sometimes multiple times depending how quickly i take off. My buddy says his does the same and it's my limited slip chirping when i take off. It didn't do this before except for the past few months. also when i come to a complete stop i feel something drop or shift coming from the rear. this may be my brakes but not sure, it started after i changed my from rotors and pads last week. Thanks for any input

The feeling is most likely the slip yoke, you can fix that by pulling the shaft and greasing the spline and putting back on.

As for the noise, does your truck have the G80 option listed in the glove box? This is the factory limited slip that is known to go bad and take rears and trannys with it. Get it looked into ASAP.

my 96 tahoe makes the same noise, i thought it was the suspension getting a little old and squeeky on me, when the truck levels out at a complete stop i hear two little chirps. then when i take off from the stop i hear the same two chirps. i thought it was because when your stopping vehicles lean forward and the suspension has to go back to normal and when you take off a vehicle leans back and the suspension moves again, i also hear it once and a wile going through potholes and whatnot.

but this could be a different noise from yours because yours is only when you accelerate right?

+1 for the slip yoke, greased mine and no more chirp. Mine was so bad it did it on take-offs, stops, and 1-2 shifts. Just take out four bolts grease it up, put it back together 30min job.

Ok i'll try greasing the slip yoke. It's been doing it for a while though. I was told that it was the limited slip but he wasn't sure how much it would cost and how difficult it is to fix.>? any idea?

The G-80 limited slip required a special gear oil in the rear, if I recall correctly drain whats in there and add standard gear oil not for a limited slip and that buys you some time. Best option is get it out of there if it is the problem. If you do not know how to work on the rear I advise taking it to a shop. It is a couple hour job to replace it with something else.

Yeah I can't even get my driveshaft to break free from the rear universal joint. I also noticed i have a slight leak coming from the seal where i guess the slip yoke going into my trans.
