Looking at a CLEAN 04 ESV, 1 owner dealer Maintained since new


Good:
Garage kept entire life
Carfax states. Trans replaced in 2018 and their is paper work on it also
1 owner GM Dealer maintained since new
No warning lights on dash


Bad:
Has 323K miles on it
A/C needs repair. Possible actuators ??
Front seats need recover
Front windshield needs replaced
Some scuffs on pass side but body paint are 8 out of 10

My price is $2800 out the door

Ya or Run away ???

Make sure to test drive it, at least above 40mph. This way you'll hear if the differentials are going out... If they are the repair will quickly exceed the $2800 asking price. How about the engine and suspension, the suspension will be the Z55 auto ride that also gets pricy to fix. I would recommend going in at $2000 and work from there.

Not sure if I would take it if it were FREE LOL. From a purely statistical view you will lose money on this rig if you value your time at any decent amount of money. You will be spending every spare moment of every weekend working on this old high mileage rig. My suggestion would be to utilize those weekends to work some OT for a while or a maybe a 2nd job and get your budget up to around 10 to 15k where you can purchase a more reliable low mileage rig. Some people like working on ole junkers (I do a lot of it myself) but I do not enjoy it nearly as mush as I used to. Personal preference I guess.

THIS. I used to love working on my higher mileage cars and trucks. I would snag up a deal on a 12 valve Cummins with 270k in a heartbeat knowing I could keep it healthy. Nowadays I just want something reliable, that isn't in constant need of repairs and either myself of my wife can jump in at any minute and go anywhere.
Not the case with my current 2009 PPV Tahoe with 192k miles, still a money pit. The older I get, especially with my 3 kids and high expectation job, I have less time and desire to be constantly wrenching.

But thats my opinion, tagging onto Darryl above. I would steer clear.

Unless you are planning on keeping this rig a long time pass. You are going to spend lots of money on future repairs.

This was going to be a local city family hauler. Already have a 01 Suburban with 320K miles and aside from some basic maintenance she runs NEW !!!

Ya I agree not a big fan of AWD myself and I knew if it goes that will be $$$$. I did a test drive a week ago and she ran fine no noises or warning lights. I'm bringing my TOP LSX mechanic for a good look over and offer the guy $2500 since A/C is out

Engine was fine no CEL, No noises and super quite. Don't care about Z55 that was going to get converted anyways lol
