Yesterday I was blessed with a P0171 code and wanted to try a couple DIY home remedies before caving in to a real mechanic. One thing I read was to clean the MAF Sensor with an aerosol electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Isnt brake cleaner much more harsh than electronics cleaner? I have a can of brake cleaner at home, but wanted clarrification from other DIY'ers that it was safe to use.

I'd be interesting to see what symptoms you have. For a rough idle, cleaning all of that stuff did absolutely nothing. Hopefully you have some better luck with what ails your truck.

The only symptom I'm having is it taking 10-12 seconds to start, motor just turns and turns and wont start, till about the 3rd try. Im used to it firing immediatly. I sure hope its not the fuel pump.

It may be.....My fuel pump went out at 80k. Try something....when you put the key into the ignition (don't start it) do you hear the fuel pump priming? If so, does it sound normal? I started to hear the priming of the fuel pump get weaker and weaker. Keep us posted.

It was the fuel pump, the old one was barely squeezing out 30psi. Hated spending that much $$, but glad its behind me now.
