I have 2 Yukon XL's, a 01 and an 05. On the 01, I am starting to hear the transmission make a clunking noise ad I put the car in reverse or Drive. I still have a warranty from the dealership I purchased it from. Took it in to them, they replaced the torque converter and reaction shell. Now, the shop manager gave a printout from ALLDATA as he explained it is a known issue in 2012 and prior Gm cars, and trucks. Now, my questions to him was, it has never done it before, as well as I have a 05 and it is not doing so. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

mine does that bs on startup. twist the key and as the engine fires up, the transmission clunks like it just had a load applied to it

I have an 01 yuk and it does this too. I have had the tranny and transfer case looked at. They both checked out fine. I mainly notice it when taking off after slowing down like at a yield sign etc. Doesn't do it all the time.

Check your U-Joints and make sure those aren't going out. I had the same problem with one of my older suburbans and after replacing the U-joint the clunk went away.

Pack the drive-shaft where is enters the transmission with grease. They make special grease for this. The clunk will be gone for about a year before you have to reapply.
