If the fuel filter is clogging up, you would have drivability issues as well as start-up issues. If it is a 95 model or prior with a throttle body and no injector system, then pumping the gas a little while starting may help, but obviously wont solve the problem.

Fuel pressure regulator could be the case as well, but again, you would be having drivability issues ( misfiring, stalling out, sluggish response ).

Another good thing to check is you cap and rotor, they may have some build-up on them. Possibly your timing is off just a little?

caps good i when to change it a few months back and it was in good shape, i dont have stall problems, JUST long cranking, and only when its cold or the first start of the day...

Pumping the gas on a fuel injected engine neither resets the choke, nor primes the engine with fuel. The only test I can think of for the fuel pump, is to turn the ignition on, let the pump pressurize the lines, turn the ignition off, then turn the ignition on, and start the engine. If this makes a difference, then maybe there's a very small leak in the fuel lines? I like the fuel pressure regulator, but I too, have none of the other symptoms. It purrs like a kitten, has plenty of power- just takes about 3 seconds of cranking to start.

I'll start experimenting with mine, and see if anything changes it, but right now, it isn't a problem and my rig is running, so I'm leary of doing anything too drastic to change that. :)

yeah i want to investigate it to but, im worries im gunna burn up my starter.....

makes sense in my situation too. runs great once started but after sitting for awhile, overnight or cold mornings it takes a long time to start. I have been testing this starting method all week and so far it fires up perfectly when I do it. I turn the key forward for about 10 seconds then start it up and no issues first time out. If I just get in and turn the key, it takes like 5 turns before it fires up. I did try to change my fuel filter but it was so badly rusted on I couldnt get it so I left it alone, I wonder if perhaps I bent it a bit and caused a leak in the line.
