I’m confused why no one has mentioned to look at the SRT Durango?! It is an SRT Grand Cherokee with a 3rd row!
I actually went to look at one. I liked it a lot less than I had thought.
It looked like a minivan on roids.
Not aesthetically pleasing at all.
The GC SRT looks much better IMO.

I’m coming off lease this October.
I’ve enjoyed the Denali. I’ve actually recently had it ceramic coated, Blackbear tune, new tires, exhaust, intake, and vinyl wrapped the chrome. I’ve done all this with the intentions to purchase the truck.
The residual is $42k. Nada has a retail value of around $50k.
However just recently I’ve started to feel the shudder/vibration many have mentioned. It happens at around 30 mph and I’ve felt it also at 50mph. Switching to manual 7 does not get rid of it.
The tranny has been suspicious since day one. I’ve had the slam into low gear while slowing, the loud clunk from the torque converter going downhill, and it always lurches into drive after a slight delay coming out of reverse when cold.
Are these trucks covered by an extended power train warranty? I currently have 38k miles on it.
I could simply turn it back in in 2 months. But there is honestly nothing else out there that interests me or does what the XL can. Plus I’m not interested in entering into another lease on a $90k suv.
Actually I lied...I do like the new Durango SRT. But my wife thinks they are hideous. [emoji46]

If the tranny does go out is it covered by a special extended warranty? I had a taillight go out and it was covered because it was known as an existing problem.

Thoughts?

You have the possibility of extending the lease as well. I did that on a couple of vehicles that were low miles.

The devil you know vs the devil you don't. I'm not a fan of warranties but we put one on my wife's 2011 Enclave - 7 year 75k since she doesn't drive much - and it paid for itself. I am thinking of adding one to my burb as it gets closer to the 3/36 cause I usually keep a truck for 8~10 years. With all the embedded electronics in these things it might be well worth it if you plan on buying out the lease. Could cover your trans issues down the road if they flair up.

I hate to be that guy; I actually can’t stand that guy.
But the GC SRT...holy $*#! What a vehicle!
It will definitely never haul the amount of stuff as my Denali. No doubt about it.
But if you find yourself not needing the space that a full sized suv provides, the SRT is a amazing.
This things drives and handles like a beast. And the technology even surpasses the Denali. Yes, hard to believe.
I will always admire the Denali every time I pass one on the road.
But I’m really glad I went out on a limb to check out the SRT.

Did you actually get the SRT? Thats not a cheap vehicle either... Since you're leaving GM did you consider the new Expedition, that's a closer competitor to the Denali.

I'm too tight. If I put all that extra dough into a nice ride on lease, I'd have bought it at lease end, especially as it is a 2015 with the 100,000 mile drive train waranty. But that is just me. We all are individuals and make different decisions.

The deal was if I could find another vehicle for the same price as the buy out on my Denali, the wife approved. I did a 100 mile search on autotrader and found the SRT 97 miles away at a Mercedes dealership.
If I was going to get rid of the Denali it was only for a mid size suv. I no longer had the need for the extra space of the Denali and wanted to get something a bit more sporty.
The GC was the only suv to combine sportiness, handling, and hp in an suv. Well besides the Durango which my wife detested.
I was also considering the X5 m series and Porsche Cayenne. But none were 2015 and 38k miles for around $42,500.
I’m not being that guy. I still like my Denali. I was just ready to get something with a bit more driving excitement.

The SRT actually stickered for $75k. So that is right below my Denali.
So I’m telling myself someone else took that depreciation hit so I could buy it 3 years later for the same price as my Denali.
But I do have to agree with you. I’m finished buying new. As a business owner a lease makes sense. But I am looking to scale down before our big move.
