The compressor will run on every startup for a few seconds. This is completely normal. ECM looks for current draw from compressor to validate the system is operational and working correctly. System will then either keep running or vent air to get back to set ride height.
I don't think you have a problem unless the compressor is running for a long time.

Same problem on my 2005 XL SRT. Just got it back from the Dealer = both shocks leaking, compressor rusted and weak, lines deteriorating - all replaced = $2,400.

I just replaced everything in the air ride system under my 2006 as well and my compressor is coming on a lot. Every startup which for me is multiple times in a day every time I go to drive to another clients house to detail another car. Which some days is 7 or 8 startups in a day. Is that normal? I thought it would only kick in like in the morning after my ride sits overnight. I didn't replace the lines however my problem is that the little plastic clips on the oem air lines are not holding the line securly to the plug in on the shock. So it's leaking from there. Anyone got a better solution for keeping air lines securely plugged in? Or maybe the metal clips are better? I don't want my new compressor to run all the time and burn itself out.

It's easy, just don't expect to run them inside the wire looms like the factory ones. I zip-tied the ones I replaced along the outside of the looms and left at least one of the originals in place, just cut off the ends so it was out of sight. You just need access to the compressor and the shocks. Remove the spare and both rear wheels, put it on jack stands and you should be good to go.
