You can set google maps to automatically download your maps and route when you plug in your destination. There aren’t too many people that still keep old school garmins unless they know they are headed off the beaten path.

Not sure about the data question and if it can use your phone. I wish at the very least I could use my own carrier/sim and make it part of my existing plan.

Agree on the sub model though. I thought for sure I was going to be paying for internet, onstar, Sirius monthly. Guess it’s a good thing I don’t keep my vehicles more than 2 years or so.

so what happens after the 36mos is up and you don't opt to pay for a data plan? Is the nav rendered useless then? Can you hotspot from your phone? I'm tired of all this stupid subscription bs...

I'm also planning on gutting/rendering onstar inoperative so hopefully they aren't integrated.

You can still use car play and google maps off your phone if you want.

there is lot's of off-grid all you have to do is head for the hills, they only put towers up where they think people are going to be. go off the "path" and whamo no service

That’s why I don’t get why everyone is so jacked about getting super cruise? It’s a subscription for hands free cruise control from what it sounds! Plus it’s only on select roads( interstate roads I’m sure). Just another “gotcha”

I think the 36 month deal is only for the 2022s with the Google NAV.

I got the free trial for 36 months, picked up a 2022 last week. I activated everything but it still doesn't work. For some reason the data isn't connected. I guess I should just press the onstar button

Y'all are lucky. I got 30 days complimentary from the date my dealer set it up and by the time i get the truck (Saturday) it will already have been expired...... wonder if my dealer can extend or if i need to reach out to onstar

they have started switching the 2022 vehicle's to a android based system, all the electronics, modules, etc communicate via android
personally I think it's a risky move, android is not "glitch free" I think going forward we will start seeing reports of "frozen" or "unresponsive" systems it won't happen all the time but it will be annoying at best.
having to have a subscription is just the start, gm's goal is for no one to ever own a vehicle, eventually they want all vehicles to be "shared" forcing you to pay all the time
however far down the road that is unknown but pushing everything to electric is also the beginning.
no I don't wear a tin foil hat, they basically publish this information already on there various websites
I can foresee various security measures being made, say you didn't pay your bill and you go to charge or drive a vehicle and everyone has to enter a "personal code" well your code is not working, why? because you didn't pay up.
it's all going to be in your "agreement" like software install's on your pc, you don't agree, you don't get to play.
bottom line for now, if you plan to travel anywhere outside of cell coverage carry a stand alone gps like a garmin, etc just in case, you can download portions of google maps to work without cell coverage but it's a limited map and you have to know what area you will need ahead of time obviously if you don't have cell coverage you can't download, it's most likely to happen in the mountains or in sparsely populated or unpopulated area's, cell coverage is strategic you could take a little side road off the highway and be in a dead zone easily.

Totally agree, and I don’t think transportation as a service is as far down the road as many might imagine.

Apple is working on a fully autonomous EV that likely will never be sold to the end consumer. There are a lot of reasons why, but very likely only will be a service based offering. Actually, I believe the only way fully autonomous vehicles will ever be offered is as a service.

The whole subscription model of business is all the rage as the more a company’s revenues are subscription based, the higher the P/E.

Get used to not owning anything, it is earnings predictability nirvana.
