Considering a 2006 Yukon - Seeking advice

-2006 Yukon 4WD
-105,000
-Clean Title and good service history
-One previous owner
-Very clean engine and chassis (upon first inspection)
-Some interior wear and tear (that I can live with).

I'm considering the above Yukon for my family "adventures" car, we live in California and I'd be looking to take this thing to Lake Tahoe and on holiday road trips, not planning on destroying it through trails but I need it to take a beating.

I've considered a Hybrid Tahoe (2008) but I've read a lot of the threads on this forum (great forum) and I'm put off by the problems that the hybrid system brings, I'm not too worried about the fuel cost of a old-school V8.

My queries for the experts in here are:

- Is this Yukon too good to be true?
- What common problems should I look for (or instruct our family mechanic to check out before I buy)?
- Is the 2006 model Yukon a solid vehicle? What repairs should I expect in the next 20-40,000 miles?

Nice truck 06 is the last year of the gmt800 so it’s solid. Always look for TSB on line for common issues otherwise it’s sporadic look at maintenance records for the engine transmission front and rear diff and transfer case get under it and look for rust and shake stuff to see looseness. Lastly take to your mechanic for a look. Don’t risk being stranded with your family. Good luck

That one looks really nice. I have an 05 Tahoe and an 09 Tahoe, and the 2 big things I like better about my 09 is the strut setup front suspension, vs the torsion bar front suspension that the GMT800's have, and the rack and pinion steering. The ONE thing I like better in my 05 vs the 09 are the seats. My 09 does have heat and cooling, but they don't hug me like my 05 seats do. The design of them are different.

I have a 2006 and it’s awesome. I also live in California(SoCal). I’ve taken it on many trips, mammoth, Vegas, I live in the mountains but regularly drive to Orange County and LA and I never hestitate to go. I just get into my Yukon and go. The only big ticket item I’ve had to replace was my transmission. Other things have had to be replaced but all common things as it ages. A couple years ago I purchased an 05 Yukon with very similar stats. I was unfamiliar with these vehicles at the time and purchased online sight unseen. Just a couple comments...I can't tell from the listing if the vehicle has Autoride suspension..if it does, check the condition/ooeration of the compressor behind the left rear wheel and the air bladders built into the rear shocks. Very likely to be in need of repairs or replacement and neither is inexpensive.

If you're needing that 3rd row seating be aware it is child-sized and severely impacts cargo storage. Had I done a little more research before my purchase I would most likely have looked for an extended Yukon instead. Of course if you don't need the 3rd row seating they are easily removed without tools even.
