Considering Yukon or Tahoe

I have been a chevy/gmc guy for years. Currently have a 2006 Envoy Denali with over 120K on it. I have had the common issues that Envoy owners have, Oil Cosumption, leaking rear air bags, failure of rear A/C lines. However for the most part if you keep up with it, it is generally a good vehicle. I like the smaller chasis, that is why we have the Envoy.

Since the don't make it any longer and I need a V8 for towing, I am considering the Yukon/Tahoe. I have done a bit of search and seems the older models have similar issues to the Envoys. Would like to know what the common issues are and if they have solved the oil consumption issue in the 5.3s for 2011 and later.

I must say I am also considering a Durango with the V8, again because of the smaller chasis but still the towing capacity.

Well any vehicle is going ro have problems more so newer vehicles if i were you id get an 01-06 tahoe z71. Very nice hoe and doesnt habe that many problems

I went from an 04' Envoy SLT to my 06' Yukon Denali and couldn't be happier. Just like previous GM vehicles-take care of the usual maint. and it will run for a long time. One common issue for these are the fuel pump. If it takes more than a few cranks to get it started-the pump is usually on its way. I have had mine only a little over a year and it has been great to me. Oh yeah-check the rear air suspension for leaks or a loud compressor. But those can both be replaced for just over $500.

So do the Yukons and Tahoes have the same rear air suspension as the Envoys? It was an easy fix, replace with Arnotts for under $150 and has a lifetime guarantee.

Yes the Autoride Tahoes/Yukon/Escalades have a similar air controlled suspension that sometimes crap out over the years. If you get one without Autoride, then you will have no issues.

So, still looking, but more serious now. Wondering if there has been any issues with Tahoes/Yukons I need to be aware of, like oil consumption (common in the 5.3liter Envoys) not sure if is in the Tahoes/Yukons. Really like some feed back either way. Also considering a Durango, but more leaning towards staying with GM.

What will you be towing? Have you looked into the 07+ Yukon Denali? I prefer the 6.2 over the 5.3

Just traded on '06 Denali with 157K on the odometer for a '10 Denali with 40K miles under the GM Certified Program.

The '06 held up well....of particular note was the fact that it was still on the ORIGINAL front brakes when I traded it. The rears were replaced at 136K. The only things that were repaired on it in the 7 years I owned it were the steering half shafts, a bracket support in the dash that wouldn't stay tight and subsequently started to rattle, and the tailgate window latch, which also wouldn't stay tight and the window started to rattle. Everything else, (tires, batteries, oil changes, etc....) that was done was maintenance.

That said, I was staring about $3K in repairs in the face, which hastened my decision. I had no heat, it struggled to pass the emissions test this year, (cat conv), it needed a power steering pump (leaking), my gas mileage had dropped from 13 around town and 15 on the road to 11-12 combined (probably a tune up), etc... In short, I couldn't see spending that kind of money on a 7 year old vehicle.

I used it to tow a 7000 lb boat back and forth between Atlanta and Florida. Other than it being thirsty, it was a great tow vehicle.

I have an 05 yukon with air ride and 130k on the clock and it's been such a great vehicle. I haven't had any issues above regular maintenance, in fact the only thing i've replaced on the vehicle was the battery. I keep waiting for the air suspension to go out since thats all i've heard since i've owned the vehicle but so far so good. I even loaded up a 16 foot car trailer and the air suspension evened out the back like it was new. I'm very happy with the 5.3. Between oil changes it seems to burn maybe 3/4 to a quart but i haven't owned a vehicle over 100k miles that didn't burn a little.

EDIT: I take that back i did have to replace the dreaded stepper motor on the speedometer but i did it myself with the help of youtube and minimal soldering skills and it's been fine ever since. Hopefully the person that owned the one that you will buy did the recall and got it fixed.
