Steven,
I am in the process of building a new design to compliment or replace the one you bought. I am not sure what people will want, but I sent one like you bought to the FBI in Cleveland for their SWAT Suburbans, and they felt it was too small. My new design will fill the console, and must be assembled inside. When it is ready, I will post photos. If you or anyone else, would prefer the new design over the old, I will swap even, customer pay shipping both ways.

:Good or Bad:

When you get it ready for market, make a post here. I'll go ahead and pay for the new one just so I can do a comparison review. I can always give the one I like least to my brother, who has a 2009 (I think) Chevy Tahoe.

I most certainly do like the one I have right now! :)

I'm not really sure wich one i will need to pick.

The USB port is available with the new design? And the power outlet? (I dont think but it's ok)

And with the future box (need to be assembled in the console) nobody will be able to "steal" the box right? (Sorry if my questions are stupid!)

With the new one, the top plate with the door and its surround will go it first, then the right side plate, the front plate, the rear plate and finally the left side plate. Each side plate will have two screws holding it to the floor. The rear plate will leave the USB and power ports exposed, and as with the first unit you can use the USB from the inside or outside with safe locked. I was at the fab shop today, and they were imputing the drawing into the program that controls the laser and the brake. Hopefully two weeks max to have the product. Say September 3rd?
I will post progress. I don't have a price quote yet, but should next week.

I know you will like the new one even better. It will have way more room, I'm thinking about 40% more. Check out the new C-Burr mounted holster on my website. The Tahoe coupon gives 10% off on these also.

Funny thing, a friend of mine in Louisiana told me about how much he liked the holster, so I call the manufacturer, and meet him at the gun show the next weekend. When I walked up to introduce myself, we realized we used to hot rod together and went to high school together in the mid to late 60's. Small world. We hadden seen each other in 40 years.

Maybe 2nd week September?

My fab shop has order 12 gauge cooled roll to build the next modell, should take a week or week and a half to be ready to ship. Here is a drawing
2011X.jpg

It have at least 50% more capacity than my previous model or the one offered by Console Vault.

If you look closely, this version has the top panel with door, two side plates, a front plate, rear plate and a strap that connects the front and rear portion.
I may make an economy model with just the top portion and the side plates.
Feedback welcome.
Thanks,
Bobby Newell
BTW, I have been out of the LD 2011's for about a week or two, but they are being make and should be ready in a week or so also.

Thanks for the updates, nice to see someone that keeps making their product better as they go. Im really interested in the economy kit also if its just the lockable top/door, just be nice to be able to lock the console, like they had on the NNBS truck consoles under the jump seat.

I recommend and use lock boxes with simplex push button locks for gun storage. It is not feasible to think you'll be able to access a key lock safe under stress. So you either leave it unlocked or you leave the key in it, neither of which is a good option.

I use the V-Line Compact box, shown here: http://www.vlineind.com/html/compact.html. It can mount vertically with the door opening down and away from you. Holds a GLOCK 21 quite nicely.

V-Line

Jim at V-Line makes some good products, but they are really aimed at home & office. As far as the simplex lock is concerned, a console safe with a combo lock is faster to open and can also be left latched but unlocked while the vehicle is occupied. I have CodeLocks available, but they are pretty heavy to use on a spring assisted door.

Find me another small pistol safe that has a simplex lock (tactile operation, no light or sight required) that'll fit in a console and I'll be all over it. So far, the V-Line Compact is the only one I've found.

I can leave the key in the lock of the Console Safe by Lock'er Down, (model number LD2011A) if I want to, and close the factory console lid. Do you know if the new unit allows the key to be left in the lock when the factory console lid is lowered, or does the top panel and door ride higher up than the model I currently have?
