Just for reference, vehicle in question is a 2005 Sub LT AWD...

Last night, vehicle was parked, turned off, and the rear wiper started running continuously. The wiper switch (small dial switch) was in OFF position.

After starting the engine, the wiper functioned normally on the 2 ON positions, but continued to run while "OFF".

I couldn't find a fuse to pull, but after opening the rear hatch door the wiper arm returned to the "OFF" bracket below the glass.

While vehicle was running and I was playing with the switch it did start running again with the switch OFF, but stopped after I either opened the rear door, or glass. Eventually the wiper stayed OFF on it's own.

Any ideas about where to start looking for this gremlin????

I suspect the ground. I had different symptoms, but this could be your problem. There is a ground off the wiper motor that connects to the hatch door steel. You have to take the inside panel off. I just took the ground off, cleaned the connection, and put it back on with a star washer and it worked fine after that.

Ok, thanks for the tip, if it shows up again I'll check that out. I used it several times over the last few days and it seems to function properly, so who knows...
