Coolant leak not sure what it is

well since no water goes through the black piece, i would say either keep looking or its coming from your lower intake manifold gasket.. you burning any coolant? and are you sure its coolant?

oh yea im sure its coolant it started to overheat and coolant was pouring from it so i changed the water pump and thats when i realized where it was coming from. so do you think just changing the gaskets will fix it? what should i look for when i pull it apart?

never max out the gauge i just saw it going up. maybe 3/4 of the way, but it normally runs 1/4 and i knew something was wrong

well thats good, honestly i couldnt tell you where it came from.. i would say dry it off, let the truck get up to operating temp and see if it comes back.. but im sure someone who is a guru with this might have a better answer

Thats most likely gaskets. They're probably so corroded by now that coolant is seeping through them and leaking in many palaces. Also, don't forget the engine/transmission is angled back slightly for a better driveshaft/pinion angle, so gravity will have its effects and cause the leaking coolant to move along the seam between the heads and the block. As far as I know, the crossover passage in the manifold is really the only source of coolant along the driver's side of the engine anyways. Unless it's a head gasket, thats a whole different issue, and far less likely.
Is there coolant in the oil/vice versa? Thats a pretty good sign of intake gasket failure.

The oil wasn't milky and it leaks to fast to heat up and I watched the coolant flow from around that area

MY vote is on the head gaskets. They tend to corrode and fail given time. GM's Dex-cool stuff does that. I had the same leak at the back of the block on the head, fixed it and flushed with green coolant. Hopefully no more problems

a broken head gasket will not build up coolant on the top of manifold. as coolant moves it goes to two ports on front of intake manny from cylinder heads before going to radiator. I suspect if you thermostat housing or sensor is not leaking you have broken thru the intake gasket on left side near front.
