No the 4th is only worth it if your pushing extreme HP, like Supercharger 500+ HP. So that's like 2% of all of us :Boo:

Just get the one I linked you to and you will be all set:Handshake:
That's actually completely false. The 4th gear servo will help holding power in OD, which is extremely important if you tow even moderate loads occasionally. It's also nice while driving on the interstate because your tranny will hold OD better (even without towing anything) and will kick down to 3rd less while accelerating or going up hills. That will reduce gear searching, decrease transmission temperatures, and therefore lengthen transmission life.

The 4th gear servo IS BENEFICIAL and you SHOULD install it.

Anthony, you've misled people about the 4th gear servo in two separate threads that I've seen. Might be a good idea to check your resources, man...

Yes, there is absolutely no reason not to do it even if you don't ever tow. It doesn't make the project any more difficult and it's super cheap. No brainer!

I am not quoting this about any one person but I have seen alot of things said on this website that have little merit. With that in mind before you do something someone on here tells you make sure you do your own research from several different sources.

I'm thinking about doing this because it's cheap, easy, and everyone says its a great mod. I don't want to seem like I know nothing, but what does the servo even do? and what will upgrading this exactly do for me?

Hello whomever is listening,

If that is the case, please point that out...diplomatically. There is a thing about the boards, bad information can spread quickly and we like to do our best to manage that without the viral spread. Especially on complicated issues such as trannies.

As for the corvette servo over the super servo, if you want a really hard shift go with the super servo. If you like a nice firm shift over the sloppy GM soft shifting, go with a corvette servo. Keep in mind, changing the servo on any high mileage tranny (100k+) and you definitely run a 10-15% risk of tranny failure. That number is something that I floated around here based on my research when building out my own, and since that point, I have witnessed several tranny issues after installing the servo kits. It's a simple issue of changing the pressures and force in the shifts which stresses the transmission at different times, pressures when it's not accustomed to those.

For elo's comment about the 3.4 pack, I'm not sure I agree with the holding od gear better and not down shifting. More info?

I DO agree that less shifting during towing will prolong tranny life, which is why good/experienced ECM tuners will ask if you intend on towing.

Hey Boss,

The upgraded OD servo has a greater fluid apply area which increases clamping pressure of the 4th gear band on the clutch pack. That extra pressure will reduce clutch/band slippage in OD which will result in putting more power to the wheels which will result in less throttle which will result in less downshifts which will result in less heat which will result a longer tranny life.... At least that's my theory. :mexsmoke:

On that note, since installing the OD servo in my Tahoe I have noticed that I can climb some hills completely in OD now that previously required a downshift to maintain speed. :)
