'99 hoe 4WD, I just replaced stabilizer bar control link because it was totally thrashed. Mechanic also said my steering linkages have excessive wear and Quoted me $1540 to replace upper/lower ball joints, control arm, stabilizer bar, and some other things etc etc. Couldn't remember everything that he told me would be replaced. I did want to get a handle of what I should expect to pay to redo the front end suspension and steering assemblies...and what parts should be included( and if not included in the quote..what should be requested to be included) to properly redo the front end? Thanks for helping me get an idea on cost.

i might be wrong but he did not specify a reason to actually need a solid front axle.

and jim if control arms and stab bar means bushings for them then you might be good. polyurethane products are better and available in complete kits. if the mech said the control arms themselves need replacing i would proceed with caution cause that don't sound right.

Hi SunlitComet, I asked the mechanic to email the estimate and the specifics of what would be replaced. When I get that I can be exact on what is included in the quote to see if it is consistent with what it should cost OR If I should replace anything additional while the parts are off. Thanks

BTW, what doe"SFA" mean? ...nevermind, lol. that quote would nothing if it included all i thought it did? lol

So the specifics of the $1500 estimate includes the replacement of both inner and outer tie rod ends, both upper and lower ball joints, idler arm the drag link and front end realignment. How does this estimate compare to what's included? IS there anything I should ask for in specific to be included that is not? What about polyE Bushings I have read about? Thanks for the help!

i don't see control arm bushings in there and would be ideal since the ball joints are already separated from arms. don't see pitman arm either. unless he says they are fine.

www.energysuspension.com

i was quoted $200 for each lower ball labor, 140 for upper labor each. i provided the moog parts. only use moog parts. only have one done so far and have a complete poly-e kit that includes both upper and lower arms, rear springs and shackles front and rear bars and body mounts. kit is sitting in storage and bought for $208 at amazon. still want to get engine and tranny mounts too.

Thanks Sunlit, I think I am starting to become a Pain in the *** to the mechanic. I asked him if he recalled the condition of the pitman arms, whether the est. included Poly-E control arm bushings and if they were moog parts. LOL He is really going to like me now. thx again

Two weekends ago I replaced upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends with connecting brackets, idler arm and bracket, pitman arm and the center link. I paid about $500 for all Moog parts from RockAuto. I'm not sure what a shop would have charged but I'm guessing maybe 800 or 1000. This was for my '98 2 door 4wd.

Thanks Will, where are you at? Are you including labor in your shop guesstimate? or just what the shop would have charged for the moog parts for a pretty complete refreshing of the front end? Thanks
