I personally think stress and flex have more to do with it than heat.

The dashboard is most likely screwed in too tight and the attachment points have no movement to flex back and forth, and up and down.

Combined with the fact the dashboard should have been made out of thicker plastic.

So, what you are saying is that the dash will eventually crack again? Is that it? Has GM made any improvements ever since the problem became apparent on early NNBS trucks? Meaning is the problem gone on a 2012 truck, which would mean one would have to assume that the replacement dash is made of better materials?

I'm not sure if any improvements have been made in workmanship or the quality of the materials. I would like to think so, but GM would be crazy to admit improvements were made because of all the problems they have had in the past 3 or 4 years with the dashboards. It opens the door to even more customers saying, "You know the dashboards were defective, replace them dammit!"

Soon we're gonna have to start buying extra dashes with these tahoes, just so we can install the new ones right before selling the truck.

I can see it now:

Immaculate, white 4x4 2008 Chevy Tahoe LT!
66,0000 miles and ultra clean!
Fully powered, leather, and moonroof!
20 stock wheels and a professionally newly installed front dash!! Don't miss this deal!

...Or we can knock off 500 bucks for the original one..

Yeah, that's one I don't understand. Interior door handles were covered, but dash isn't.

Yeah, the door handles had the ability to inflict pain and suffering. Just let a few young children cut a finger or two wide open and see how much bad publicity GM would have gotten nationwide. That's the only reason GM acted on these, looking out for their own interests. not the interests of customers.

I do not recall right now, have you had a dashboard crack yet? If so, what did GM offer to do in an effort to assist you?
