WOW i started reading this and after getting sick to my stomach just stopped..

some paint shops have no damn scruples.. when i see charges for some shit..

MY dude just went around me and got his shit painted up in jax.. thought since im not there he wouldnt bother me.. dumbass.. they charged him installation for his headlights/tail lights and FACTORY OPTION HOOD AND BUMPERS...

Here is the ****** up part.. in an all over paint job.. ALL OF THAT SHIT HAS TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED ANYWAY....

Sooooo.. your charging me.. to take out my headlights (which you already have to do) and then instead of replacing them with part A your gonna replace them with the part in YOUR OTHER DAMN HAND.. soooo since you have to change damn hands.. you wanna charge full damn price to RandR the headlights?!?!?!?!

THATS ****!!!!!

He paid almost $600 in LABOR.. to remove and replace parts.. THAT ALREADY HAD TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED!!!!

If youre gonna spend damn near $2000 you might as well just get the whole thing painted brand new.. and tell whoever it is.. to kiss your ******* ass on the RandR labor of parts he already has to remove!!!

God im so pissed off right now.. you have no clue...

Its like bike shops.. who will install a swingarm.. but then charge you full price to RandR lowering links or extension tabs.... shit that has to come off and be replaced ANYWAY.. . man you litterally have no idea how much reading this shit pissed me off

Sure but remember they are working off industry standard time scales given from their estimating software

She said that it may come in cheaper if the job goes quicker and smoothly. (i.e no unforeseen circumstances)

The charges are for back bumper, front SS bumper, Grille and HD hood

Body Labor 3.0 hours @ $48.00 per hour = $144.00
Paint Labor 9.4 hours @ $48.00 per hour = $451.20
Paint supplies = $282.00
Body supplies = $6.00
Misc = $19.00
----------------------------------------------------------
Total = $902.20

thanks not HORRIBLE.. It just sucks because if you were local i could get your whole shit painted for you for a grand.. like.. the whole truck.. so the parts would match impeccably.. and you could tune the color to a nicer version of whatever color you already are.

and to be fair she said this is the MOST it would cost as she has to go by the estimate from her computer.
She really felt it would come in cheaper than the quote so fingers crossed.

The guy I saw yesterday was quoting $1700 + tax which was ridiculous.

I told him Makko would paint the whole truck for $350 so how did him come to $1700 for basically 2 panels??

Not that you implied it but for the record.. our shop is NOT a maaco caliber shop.. im sure you saw the jag..or mike bike on the cover of super street bike... jeff only does show stuff and bikes..

A grand isnt horrible.. im just one of those people that likes everything painted at once so i KNOW its gonna be all squeeky clean and perfectly uniform...

And like i said.. on a goos paint job.. all the headlights hood bumpers ect has to be pulled off anyway.. so there should be VERY little labor on replacing it with the new parts.

I hear ya. Yes of course I wasnt suggesting you were anything like Maaco.
Nor would I do a paint job there either. I just couldnt understand why he was charging such an astronomical figure.

I think color matching a standard GM color like black is a lot more forgiving than maybe a lighter color but if the match is not right,
I may well consider a total respray.

I love that metalic graphite black/dark grey that BMW use. I think the truck in that color would look sick.

The issue is age .. oxidation.. sundamage.. what you wash it with.. all effect color.. sometimes you dont even know you know the difference.. but you do.. ever wonder why when you part your truck and an identicle vehicle parks next to it yours still pops out to you.. thats because after even a year.. a garage kept , hand washed, truck will be different than a parked outside, car wash, truck...

Any shop should be able to get them looking good dont get me wrong.. but when i walk into a car lot.. i can immediately stop every patched and resprayed and replaced bumper and fender there.. even if you dont do a color change.. (that way you wont have to spray door jams and stuff) but just do a cooler black.. like a black with gunmetal flake.. at least that way you get to stand back and look at a nice new paint job... and get not only the fun of having a new paint job... but the assuredness of knowing everything is a spot on match :D
