Cruise just went out and no bad fuses.

I like to randomly use the 4wd to give it some use. This past weekend I used it and it didn’t engage 4 Low. It stayed in 4Hi but the 4 low light was on. Didn’t think much about it but noticed on the way home that my cruise is out now. I have checked the 4wd again and it seems fine now, but still no cruise. I’ve checked all fuses. I’ve disconnected the battery. I’m at a loss.

probably 2 separate issue's
4wd encoder motor may be tired or needs to be replaced
cruise will not work if there is any CEL or if there is any brake issue including lamps out or switch

The brakes are good. I just replacement the rear bulbs and all lights are functioning.

then you may need a scan with a tech2 to see where the problem is.
be sure the brake fluid is full
engage the parking brake and check to see if the brake light illuminates when it is engaged and also when you turn the key to run the brake should illuminate and then go off
then be sure the parking brake is fully dis-engaged as well
does it have auto start? if so does that work

For the cruise, the brake light switch on the brake pedal arm could be defective; it has three switches integrated into the pkg and they control different functions. The internal switch that controls the cruise control circuit could be defective. A good scanner like a Tech 2 could show you the status of those switches.

Everything you listed has been checked and no it doesn’t have auto start.

A bad multifunction switch -- the one that controls cruise, the lights, and the wipers -- could also be the problem.

In terms of scanners, I suggest you search through these forums to see what alternatives are out there or go to your local auto parts store and see if they will read codes for you. A tech II is nice to have, and inexpensive clones are available, but it all depends on how much work you intend to do yourself, and what you consider inexpensive. Hopefully someone will chime in on this thread with suggestions of readers and, if necessary, I'll dig out the link to where I bought my Tech II clone. Good luck!
