so, as some may know, ive had problems with my LPP LT's rubbing the steering shaft. even after some denting, it was still rubbing. they were fine for a while, but for some reason, earlier this week, they started rubbing again constantly. so i took my truck into a local fab shop that does work for the speedway around here, and had him take a look. he made me a custom, skinny steering shaft and now, there is lots of room for play, so hopefully no more problems with rubbing. now i just need to get the Y to stop hitting the crossmember!!!

if only i couldve found some AEMS... LPPs have been trouble for me...

the only downside is that there is a little play in the steering wheel now... any way to tighten up the steering wheel? how to's?

shaft looks good, but man alot of work to do it again. I would be on the phone cussing LPP out. Now the steering is loose? > yet another problem.. It may need a new steering box or the made shaft, may have to be either shortened or lengthened.

You should not have to modify the entire truck cause of the headers. You would be better off with stock headers, or shorties, or even midlength may have rewarded you better in this unique case.

I run the LPPs without a issue, I just had to length the ORY wye pipe about 2"for clearance. Any may have to tweak the wye again when I get a DEEP trans pan.

I had steering shaft clearance issues on the camaro when i did headers (lots less room in there!). I fixed it by swapping in poly motor mounts, the stock rubber ones sagged enough to let the engine drop and cause problems. You never would have known how much the mounts sag over time.

I would have looked at motor mounts before a custom steering shaft. But, its pretty cool that you have a new shaft! lots more room in there now!

is there still a rag joint in the system? if so, i would look at that. There is a company that makes rag joint eliminators, the camaro got one too. I would look at anything on the shaft that he made. i.e. u-joints or slip joints that could have been damaged by welding heat..

good luck.

i did have the mounts replaced with brand new ones, and it was still rubbing! and i tried to contact LPP, but whoever is running it doesnt want to respond to emails unless it makes them money. LPP makes decent stuff, but their customer support is shit. like i said before, i wish i had gone with AEMS, but there were none to be found anywhere.

i think the steering issues is withing the steering wheel itself. any way to take the wheel off and adjust it? tighten some bolts or anything?
