Step by Step
The paint is from a local body paint supplier.....They have all the general colors for all makes. For instance, the top part of the dash is a GMC Medium Nuetral and the lower dash is a GMC Light Nuetral. You'll have to match whatever you have with the can lids.
As far as the prep work, after removing the pieces.
1) we lightly sanded the dash since it had been horribly painted before I bought the vehicle and had multiple rough patches.
2)Rubbed the dash down with rubbing alcohol to remove excess paint and debris
3) Applied primer, (not sure what type, the paint store should be able to assist you)
4) Apply paint
5) We also applied texture spray so that the paint would adhere properly to the dash.
5) Then continue with multiple coats of paint until coverage is acceptable. Make sure each coat dries before applying the next. (Took about 10 -15 min for each coat to drive in 70 degree weather)
The whole process including removal, prep, painting, and putting back together took about 2 hours
Also remember to feed and buy beer for your buddy who has the painting skills lol
Wow, that looks pretty good. Do you know what kind of paint he used and what kind of prep work went into it.
