Dash light dimming during the daytime?

09 LTZ - is there a way to turn off or dim the damn dashlights during the daytime? The dimmer only works when the sensor on the dash turns on the lights?

The dimmer control knob, above the foglight switch, push it, and turn to the left...

I'm not that dumb......

It does nothing to the dashlights during the day.....at least on my truck.....hence my question

I've noticed that when i start the car in a dark garage, and pull out into the sun, sometimes it doesnt brighten the interior lights. maybe the light sensor?
