so recently my 2001 denali no longer activates the daytime running lights. The truck basically turns on the headlights and mutes the dash lights the whole day.

Where can i start troubleshooting this?
where is the sensor located?

My 04 was the same way...night mode all the time. Not sure if 01 is the same but on mine the sensor is a little brown plastic bubble on the center of the dash at the base of the windshield. Previous owner used to leave stuff on top his dash and something slid across dash and broke sensor. What a PITA to replace! Best way I found was removing radio and going that way. Had to get one of my teenage daughters to get sensor into hole and twist locked. No way my hand would make it back there.

Press the Dome Override button 4 times your lights should go off.

I have the same problem with my 2001 Tahoe. The daytime running lights never come on and I have to press the dome override 4x to get the headlights to turn off. But I want to fix the problem, not just get the headlights to turn off. Did you ever identify the cause of this problem on your vehicle?
