I just did this...I used fish line, and a 3m wheel to remove the old 3m tape. Very easy!

The fish line or floss will not harm your paint with what you will be doing with it.

Tips:

1. Heat (even a warm day as opposed to a cool day) helps soften the 3M backing and makes removal easier.
2. Resist the urge to get the badging PARTLY free and then to pry it off from there. Doing do could cause you to leverage the badging in such a way that you scratch it against your paint.
3. Consider some hearty fishing line. Weak stuff will break.
4. Use a sawing motion to saw through the 3M ADHESIVE, and NOT through the emblem or your paint. You should be sawing away from the paint, not against it -- just be sure that you're not digging into the edges of the emblem/lettering.
5. Save the Goo-Gone or other adhesive removal stuff until the 3M is off the truck. Otherwise, you can make a gooey mess that isn't easy to get off. Get the tape off with your fingers/eraser wheel, THEN use the other stuff to remove any residue.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

You can also go get a new plastic spackling tool from the hardware store and use it. A new one will not scratch the paint because it doesn't have any ridges from being used yet. I like this better than the line myself but it's just personal preference :waytogo:

Are you guys debadging the tailgate of your trucks? I can't decide how it will look on the nnbs... I had my 01 Tahoe debadged and loved it. I guess I should just grow some and do it, I can always put them back on if need be.
I just haven't seen too many nnbs trucks running around debadged i guess.

The "Tahoe" on the lift gate of my '09 just wasn't straight, and so that came off -- as did the silly "flex fuel" badge. So, yes, I de-badged the rear. But, I bet you're asking about the rear emblem over the plate, too. I didn't ditch that, since it's much more involved on a Chevy. But the other stuff had to go.
