I had to explain how I got to know that there are codes in the system. Bluedriver has shown me the codes to begin with while causing those codes. Another mechanic cleared the codes with the SnapOn and they appeared again. Some dealers are just really good and just there to help.

TSB they gave me #13-08-116-001E from Jun 26, 2019.

Yes, I miss the days when I could disassemble the carburetor on the side of the road, clean it, adjust the floater and get back on the road. Those were the days when things were simpler and better.


Curious, did they see the device or did you tell them that you were using one for diagnosis? Man, I miss the days when screwdriver would solve your idle problem in 2 seconds!

Was that TSB 13-08-116-001C?

There doesn't seem to be anything that voids the warranty by just using a reader. But, I don't think I would disclose to the dealer/GM that I was using any other device.

What is seen in the bulletin is people were dumb enough to take their vehicles into the dealer and leave stuff plugged into the OBD. I don't think GM has programmed the ECUs to track when a device access the port.

I don’t see where it will void the warranty. I can’t imagine GM telling a large fleet operator that their warranty is void if they find a fleet tracking device plugged in. However, the last section where it states if the technician suspects that the device is the root cause of the issue, they are supposed to flag it under labor code suspected tampering. That does put a flag on your VIN in GM’s data base and that is what @dvzzz mentioned. It will give a lazy Tech or tight warranty reviewer a reason to deny a warranty claim and put the burden on you to prove that the device was not the caused an issue.

That being said, yeah, remove your device before taking it in for service and keep quiet about having it. Don’t just unplug it and throw it into the glove box either. Leave it at home.

Warranty service on a new GM product doesn't require a cognizant and honest dealer, it requires an iron-****** lawyer.

Buy old GM and fix it yourself with TYF and YouTube.


Agreed. But having a good dealer helps a lot. My dealer is great. They won’t give a hard time. Heck I didn’t even purchase my car there and after I bought it out of state brought it there for inspection and they did it for free. Any warranty work I had done I had no issues. The only thing I didn’t get was a loaner. Didn’t bother me because I have a third car.

I do not imply that it voids the warranty. My problem is that I had multiple codes (posted them earlier in the thread) and one morning USB ports stopped working. Prior to that I ran Blue Driver for 2 days trying to log my fuel system and cats. Once I unplugged the Blue Driver and drove it for 2 hours, all codes disappeared and ... USB port started working again, and working up to now and no new codes either. Problem is when you use Blue Driver while engine running it does load the bus more than 99% of the OBD GPS devices that fleet managers or insurance use. Blue Driver is highly highly intense on bus traffic.

Another good reason to run the dealer's scan tools. Can't complain if you're using the same equipment they are.

It isn’t just connections. The cables have high resistance internally. They are common but are something to worry about because they can cause problems such as just the radio screen going blank up to the engine stalling if they’re bad enough.
the worst case is an electrical "fire" or you crash.
