Hey, all...

I have a 2005 Yukon Denali XL that I plan on upgrading the driving lights on. The family and myself often use this vehicle off road out in the sticks for camping and what not and the factory halogen bulbs aren't cutting it. I have already performed the 6 HI mod and want to get some DDM Tuning HIDs. I have installed those kits on two of my previous vehicles (2008 Titan and 2002 Silverado) and I liked the output and the quality. However, on my 2002 Silverado, the 55w 6000k HIDs melted the lenses off of the fog light housings. Since the NBS Denali fog lights are different, I would like some input from some folks who have converted their Denali's fog lights to HIDs and learn what works and what does not. My plan is to get 55w 5000k 9005s for the lows and highs, and the 55w 5000k 880 kit for the fogs. I also plan on installing a 40" led light bar in the lower bumper opening at a later date.

Before someone says it, don't worry, I won't be using all of these lights on public roads, just the low beams in projector housings.

I also tried to search, but it didn't really answer my question about the melted housings.

Thanks in advance.

Honestly... you would be better off buying some generic h1 projectors, and the adapter plates and putting those in your low beams with a hid kit. You'll have much better light output with just that. I image maybe even better light than if you put hids in everything. They don't really work well in dedicated high beams cause you have to wait for them to warm up.

Yes 55w will probably melt the fog lights. Go 35w on those. I'm not sure how long your denali projectors are gonna last on 55w either. But I know people on this forum have 55w in them.

I just run led bulbs in the fogs to try to match the low's.....I'm running mini H1's with adapter aplates and they light up the road nicely! There really is no need for fogs other than looks....

I ran HID PnP kits in both lows and fogs when I first signed up and before I searched the topic. I actually thought there was less visible light with the kit than stock-afterall the stock housing is a halogen projector. I had no issues running the 35 watt kit in my fogs btw. Best course of action is to do a low beam retro and call it a day IMO

I'm really thinking about doing the retro projectors the longer I'm on this forum, HID's were a great upgrade on my truck but I'd bet the retro projectors would be even better!

I've heard alot of folks melting both headlights and denali fogs with 55w and because of all of their experiences (folks on here) I've stuck with only 35W HID's for both my lows and fogs and no melting on either and I've had them like that for over 5 years!

yes 35 watt melted my denali fogs as well, not sure if a bulbs were seated all the way as they melted around mounting point.
i have the mini h1 projectors with the 35w 5k hids from retrofitsource.com light output is great but for almost 300 i would like more output.I have heard that the halogen projectors in denali will have worse ouput with hids as compared to a top of the line halogen, due to design(No actual experience just what i have read 100times). my $40 17" led bar mounted in lower bumper gap almost obsoletes the hids
