I am currently deployed and my wife is having serious trouble with her 2003 Yukon 2500XL 6.0L. We have four kids and she has not been able to get the Yukon to start for over a week.

Here's the background. Our community was about to be evacuated for a wildfire so my wife packed a few emergency things into the truck, including a full 5 gallon water container. She hadn't taken it out yet and last week a family of baby quail ran into the road right in front of her, causing her to react and lock up the brakes. The water jug slammed into the back of the passenger seat and burst, letting all 5 gallons out into the passenger floorboard. She didn't feel any urgency in getting things dried out and when she went to drive it the next morning it wouldn't start. She put the battery on the charger overnight and it still won't start. A friend came over to look at it and as soon as he put the key in the ignition, the alarm started going off. He recommended taking it to an auto electric place and said the water may have caused a short and fried the computer.

What is in the passenger floorboards (besides 5 gallons of water) that may be causing the trouble? What circuitry is under the carpet there? She is currently driving my beat up old 97 F250 hunting truck but I would really like to get her back in the family rig so she is comfortable again. Besides, my Ford doesn't get driven much so I often neglect the maintenance on it and it has been having transmission trouble lately. I would like to know if there might be an easy fix for the problem because I really don't have the cash to fork over for extensive professional troubleshooting and repair. I also don't trust mechanics who may take advantage of our current situation. If I was home, I would have had this fixed already.

Vacuum. Out the water. Roll down the windows and let it air out. I'm guessing fuses are blown due to short circuits AND humidity.

On that same note I recently pressure washed the entire inside of my tahoes carpet in my 2001 hoe. The carpet was dirty as hell from years of hauling around dirty cavers. Hiking. Camping. Dogs. Etc. I immediately vaccumed the carpet to remove the rest of the grime and standing water. I also left the windows down for 3 days to let it at out.

Ommediately after doing this I had to pull the power seat fuse as the drivers seat shorted out and the seat heater was permanently on. Even though it wasn't turned in. After it aired out I put the fuse back in and it is back to normal. I also did this to my 04 z71 I just bought as someone used to smoke in it. The carpet was reaming of smoke so back to the caraway I went for an interior power washing again. No issues but you have to vacuum the interior out and let it dry. Pulling door sill trim plates is also helpful as water will puddl up under the trim and there is a lot of electronics in those channels.

Can't tell where you live from your info. Don't know how you feel about giving out location info but if you could give us a city I'm sure someone can PM you for your exact address. This forum is full of great people and I am sure one of us would come help your wife with your car. Especially since you are deployed serving our country.

I'm not sure what level of trim you have on your Yukon. If I'm remembering correctly though there are a few computer modules in the passenger compartment on or near the floor. I think for the memory seats in my Escalade that there are driver and passenger seat/door computers under the front seats. I'm guessing also the body computer is likely in the passenger compartment as well, that would be a big one I'd look at since it performs a lot of the non emissions/engine functions like the alarm system.

Also, if you think there might be a computer problem have someone hook up a scanner to it and see if it will at least talk to the PCM. I'm guessing you're in CO since you mentioned evacuation for wildfire. I'm in VA so I'm likely too far away to help you out or I'd offer. Being prior service myself I remember what it was like to depend on others to help out with the family while I was away.

You'll probably need a Tech II or other high end scanner normally only available at the dealership to talk to all the various computers/modules in the truck to isolate the problem. I invested in one of those several years ago and it's been invaluable in troubleshooting various problems over the years with all my GMs.

Good luck, it doesn't sound like it's going to be an easy fix.

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions. I have a trusted friend looking into this issue for me. He also believes that there is a computer issue. He called his father who owns a junk yard and asked for his opinion and he said there is a box (instrument control) that he should check first. He also told me that once we nail down the problem, his dad will get me whatever I need cheap. Is there any place online where I can find wiring diagrams, schematics, and component location diagrams for free?
