I know everybody on here recommends Black Bear tunes already. Just curious if anybody has tried the Diablosport tuner? Didn't know what, if any, kind of results you get.

Diablo is prob one of the best handhelds out there..

If your looking for more control over a mail order tune you can have a custom tune made for the diablo that would be just like geting one from a tuner using hpt or efi..

What is TCM? Again, I'm not set on any particular brand tuner. Just looking for something that will let the engine do what it wants to do. Also don't want a lot of downtime with the truck because it's our family vehicle as well.

Transmission Control Module. That's probably the biggest reason I will go for blackbear's AutoCal on mine. The stock tranny tuning sucks so big gains in performance and driveability can be had by tuning the TCM along with the ECU.

I have tuner cat and do my own tuning and he is right there I picked up a bunch tuning on my trans side of the computer. I did load the changes I made to my truck into the engine side of the diablo I am selling so it is better than a shelf bought one. I turned off the torque management all the way and did some big timing tweaks for gas mileage. But the changes I did to my trans side cannot be saved to the diablo. Now u can do a good shift kit and make the trans shift really firm and quick with out being too abrupt I did that to mine soon as I bought the truck before tuning was even out for it so my truck was already shifting very snappy and quick and lock up is also snappy and not dragging. I turned the pwm off and made it on off and picked up about 1 mpg doing that alone with the shift kit I used. So ways around that also and not lose out completely and still have the handheld.

The transmission is the biggest problem! The engine revs quick and sounds great doing it. It just takes the transmission fooorrreeevvveeerrr to shift. I'll take another look at Black Bear when I get a chance. Seems like they know the most about the Denali engine & transmission set up. I'd just hate to have some local guy tune it and blow it up. What is the average vehicle downtime and turn around when working with BB? I saw they had some upcoming tunning sessions in Texas but I don't want to wait that long to get it done.

These 6spd transmissions can be very finicky. We have had quite a few of them on the dyno, and now that we own a 2010 Denali, do a lot of playing around with the tuning on it. Like it was stated, the TCM tuning will make a big difference in the driveability of the vehicle.

Most customers with the newer vehicles that have 6spds are going for the AutoCal option, as they can datalog and also have the ability to flash the custom tunes to their vehicle. It is a true custom tuning handheld- no downtime.
