I own a 2008 Denali XL. Just read this on Wiki.

------
For 2009, the 6.2 L engine in the Yukon Denali got a power increase to 403 hp (301 kW), while a 395 hp (295 kW) 6.2 L was added as an option for the Tahoe LTZ. A 6-speed 6L80 automatic transmission replaced the 4-speed on all trucks except 2WD models with the 4.8 L engine.

Can folks confirm that? I know often wiki isn't accurate. I'd liek to know as I have a 2008 and would like to know if it was just a computer update that gets 8 more hp out of the same motor. Just curious.

The difference is marketing. They offered the "395 HP" 6.2 in the '09 Tahoe, so the 6.2 in the Denali was re-rated to the same 403 HP in the Escalade. Can't have the lower class model getting the same power rating. Just like MB rated the '03-06 E55 at 469 HP while the pricier CL, SL, and S class AMG's were rated at 493 HP. No way the "cheap" E class could get the same power rating. They are all the same motor.

yup. marketing hype. lots of GM vehicles have been underrated over the years, syclones, typhoons, grand nationals, Zr1s, and tons of later models. they rate it just enough to satisfy the consumer, and then they can always "improve" it by finding an extra 10 hp here or there to update it. trust me, the way they engineer these motors, they would not have missed the 10 hp the first time they sold it.

whats wrong with that? 6.2L was a tahoe/suburban option in 09...

We almost didnt get an 08' because of that, but the deal we got made the 08' a definite.

My '09 is a 6.2 4X4. The Denali had 2 options the Tahoe couldn't offer (heated wheel, power column) but I thought the Tahoe was much better looking. Passed on the Escalade (15k more??!!), as the wife declared it too "ghetto", and the Tahoe has one thing neither of them could offer: Real four wheel drive with low range. Yes, very rare.

I wonder why they stopped offering the 6.2 option on the LTZ?

Probably all the Eskonalis started whining ... trying to figure out why they spent all that extra cash. :)
