SuperchargedSS,

Soulsea is correct; they did stop producing the 6.2L engine on the Tahoe LTZ. It was discontinued after the 2009 model year. I am not sure why it was discontinued. I will look into that and post if I found an answer. For the question that Mr T asked, I am not 100% sure why the horsepower increased for the 2009 model year on the Yukon Denali. I know that they added Flex Fuel capabilities to the engine but I am not sure if that is why. I will also look into that and see if I can find an answer for you guys.

Thank you

The 2009+ engine is the L9H, the 2007-2008 is the L92. The L9H also has active fuel management (cylinder deactivation for V4/V8 modes) and can run e85.
The basic engine was the same though so I think it was just a tuning tweak. My '07 doesn't feel as fast as my dad's '10, but then again I have 80k miles on mine so it's probably not a fair comparison. Blackbear's AutoCal will fix that :)

The tahoe 6.2L was only made one year, not sure why. Maybe it was cutting into GMC's denali profits too much or something.

Also keep in mind the Sierra Denali was always 403hp, running the same engine and drivetrain. I think they just wanted to keep the yukon a little below the escalade at the time since there weren't many differences to justify the price tag difference. Kinda like the 1998-1999 camaro Z28 being rated at 305hp and the 1998-1999 corvette rated at 345hp despite the same ls1 engine and same dyno numbers in the real world. Can't have a "lesser model" put out the same hp as something costing tens of thousands more.

Umm, no. My '09 6.2 does not have cylinder deactivation like my '07 5.3 LTZ 2WD. You are correct in that the 6.2 was '09 only. That's why I bought the '09 at the end of 2009 when I found I could not get it in a 2010 and honestly, 75-85K for an Escalade when the only thing I really wanted but could not get in the 'Hoe was magnetic ride control just didn't make sense.

Thread wake up!!

So if there were to be a drag race b/w two completely stock trucks, a 2008 denali and a 2009 denali, they would both yeild the same? (we are talking perfect worlds here, where there is no variables)

What im trying to ask is, that one might have a less aggressive tune on it or whatnot, that they decided to tweak for the newer model, or are they literally the same motors, with just brochures that advertise different HP numbers...

For all we know they underrated it on purpose... which is highly possible. Manufacturers do that all the time
