Just wanted to know if anyone has installed a late model rear end on a pre 2000 Tahoe/suburban/pickup with disc brakes . or if it can be done. thanks for the help guys.

hey i was wondering the same thing it was somehting i have been toying with for a little bit and since i had a clunk migh tbe the way to go and better stopping alot better stopping

I believe the truck rear ends use bigger bearings and you'll have mismatched bolt patterns. If you want disc brakes get disc brakes for your current rear end.

Plus the one youre looking at might be 1.5" narrower than the stock one you already are running on. I'm driving on a junk yard rear end of this same scenario, and yes I've got a 5 lug on the rear and 6 lugs on the fronts!!! Talk about red neck!

What I found out just from walking through junk yards , is that the newer rear end is 1.5 inches longer. Also all of the newer '01's and up are 3.73 gears and you cant use a Tahoe, Suburban, or Avalanche rear end do to the coil spring suspension. The only other option is the 1500 pickup because it has leaf springs. I'm not 100% but I don't think that the the spring mounts are in the right location you my have to cut and re weld the mounts. The reason you cant just unbolt the the disc brake system and bolt it to your rear end, is because the bolt pattern on the out side of the rear end is different.
