As a few of you know bout a year ago I had the front dif replaced.
So as I went to get oil changed few mos back they told me if was leaking again. Went to get fixed, they changed out seals from my understanding.
Ok so again went & had oil done cpl days ago, again, they tell me its still seems to be leaking... called the place that's been working on it & dude tells me "some seepage is normal, not a leak, but seepage" (was his term) stated even w/ newer vehicles as well
So question is.. Is this true? I would like to think not? But Im no differential specialist or anything ha!
Any thoughts/info appreciated...so I can call him back w/ proper knowledge if need be.

Thanks

Hey Leylah,

Where is the oil seeping/leaking? If it's the cover, that's an easy fix, or is it from a different area?

If you had front diff replaced I'm sure it was a remanufactured one that came with a warranty that probably only lasted 3, 6, or 12 months. Could be one of the bearings or seals in the front diff or the axle seal. Either way they may have to remove the diff and open it up to determine the exact cause of the problem. Check to see if it is still under warranty first.

Had the exact same thing happen last year. There should be NO leakage seepage weeping or whatever except from maybe the vent hose. My issue turned out to be the axle seals..they are a newer design according to my friend so have to pay attention to which side goes in first. Hth.

I had the same problem about a couple of years ago. Mine leaked on the right side where the axle goes in. Changed the seal twice and still leaking. It turns out that the right inner axle shaft was out of round and is making the seal leak. Replaced the axle shaft and seal, no more leak up to now. Hope this help you out.

If its a leak from your diff cover - remove it or order and new one (they're cheap) and buy a LUBE LOCKER gasket -they never leak! $40 gasket but worth every penny, it even claims to be re-usable. Comes with a sticker that says "throw your RTV away" lol
