I have a 98 Tahoe Sport. Needed a new differential so I dropped the whole old rear end out. It is a 3.73 ratio with limited slip. Had trouble finding a new differential, but I got a 98 Suburban differential. Same deal. 3.73 ratio and limited slip. ARE THEY COMPATIBLE???? I know the suburban has the sway bar and the tahoe doesn't. The suburban, however has the heavier duty 2 3/4" rear brakes while the Tahoe has 2 1/4" brakes. Do the heavier duty brakes pose any problems with stopping? Will the back wheels lock up, or will they perform the same as the originals? Thanks.

Are they both 10 bolt? or is the suburban 14 bolt? 99% of these axles are straight swap with no modifications required as for the sway bar you can run without one

Yes both are 10 bolt. And they can be swapped. Everything fits. I'm just concerned about the larger brakes on the suburban axle causing problems while stopping. The wider brake pads will mean more brake contact surface. Don't want the back end to lockup very time I come into a stop light.

you will have no issues a lot of guys have swapped over to a 14 bolt axle with much larger brakes and have had no issues I would just make sure the drums are adjusted properly before you really take it out on the road to prevent lock up
