has anyone on here welded their own catalytic converters in ? im a tig welder by trade and im fairly good at thin gauge material. im more curious about the tight spots are they bad to get too?

im sure its been done. my main question is why would you need to weld on new cats on your tahoe.

throwing a p0420 and p0430 code. ive ruled out everything else so 2 new catalytic converters it is plus 4 new o2 sensors. they make a bolt up y piece but im trying to save a buck and the hassle of replacing the entire thing

ive watched my neighbor do 100s (owns a exhaust shop) he will tack them in place and then disconnect the exhaust hangers from the body and to weld the top sides.

Pretty much this. Being a welder yourself I don't need to stress the importance of clean metal around your weld area (clean vs. booger welds). Measure 3 times, cut once. Slide them in place. Tack tackity tack. Weld around.

no sir none yet the slippery stuff started coming down this past weekend and i played instead of working on it ,will post pics when done
