Do I need to do anything with this battery current sensor?

I'm replacing the battery on my 2005 Suburban. It didn't want to start this morning the first 2 tries (clicking acting dead) but then started right up. Stopped somewhere for about 10 minutes and it did it again. When I got to work, the battery smelled like rotten eggs and I ordered a new one to be delivered to my job.

I'm wondering if this sensor/module thing needs to be told it has a new battery to monitor like Audi and Mercedes. If not then all is well. Hopefully somebody can let me know if anything needs to be done with it. I searched the service manual but couldn't find anything about it or even what it does besides monitoring the current draw/charge.

Nothing needs to be done about it. That monitors current through the battery and regulates the alternator output accordingly. No need to be running the alternator full out when the battery is fully charged!

Makes sense to me. Audis like to know that the battery is new and fully charged so it can put back in as much power as is used when the engine is started and accessories are on.

It becomes a problem when it tries to shove more power into fully charged replacement battery if you don't tell the module.

The RVC system automatically knows how to care for the battery, not to overcharge it, figure out its temperature, state of charge, etc. Fascinating system if you ask me.

I'll have to look up some info on how it works on these vehicles. Sounds interesting. I'm wondering how the temp sensor determines the battery temp or if it assumes based on engine bay temps.

It estimates the battery temperature. There are excellent descriptions of the system in the shop manuals and in the Upfitter's Guides which can be freely downloaded from GMs website.

that is caused by the throttle body not your battery, you can try cleaning it or just replace it if it is a continual problem, it may just be coincidental that adjusting the battery cable clears the code or resets whatever is happening with the throttle body.
