I already contributed to this thread and enjoy the comments.

This was the ultimate road trip truck back in the day. One of at least 4 that I can remember growing up in Washington State and Arizona. My dad pulled a trailer, us 3 boys in the back seat, dog in the back, loaded with everything needed for the occasional tent camping trips to the mountains and Pacific coast, mom wheeling us around for sports all over Seattle in the 70s/80s, out to Yellowstone and everything and everywhere in between. Dirt roads, manual hubs, rain, snow and dirty kids.

That was vinyl, bench seats, no carpet, limited power options and it kicked ass. Everywhere, all the time.

It is indispensable in the space department. Nobody with a family ever says it is too big or not enough room to fit everyone, kids, dogs, grandparents, towing, extra equipment, etc...

We have so many/perhaps too many options these days to make our decisions tougher. 5.3, 6.2, bench or buckets, etc...etc....

It really is a no brainer. You will not regret it at any point with a family and gear. My wife every day now loves her big ass land yacht. Win/Win for her and me. You want the space then go BIG!

Its great going down memory lane, and I got a chuckle out of the guy who is 24 and people stare at him for having a suburban, yet all you have to do is look at the pickup trucks people drive and they are even bigger than a Suburban never mind the Tahoe. Yet for all their size they cant get around the basic pickup design that was made for farmers to work the fields with. I had when my work truck was in the shop (again) a 2017 Ford F150 Crewcab with Lariat package. The agent who rented it to me was gushing about how nice the truck was and it was, however other than the space behind the seats, the bed was completely useless as it was only 5.5 feet and was not covered. No security there. Oh and it got terrible mileage for the ecoboost 3.5 with 10 speed tranny. I really liked the power dropping tailgate (not)

My defining moment from a truck to large SUV was going from a tonneau cover to a full fledged topper to secure everything I would keep in the bed. Then a light bulb went off and I purchased an Expedition EL. :D

I have had 3 Tahoe’s of the previous gen. I went with a 2017 Suburban and NO regrets.

Buuuut, when I was looking at/for a Suburban I got weird reactions from people when I told them I was looking at getting a burb. Maybe because I was a 24yr old male. Idk. Still, I get weird reactions when people ask what I drive or see it. Maybe I don’t look like I’d drive a suburban? People act like it’s a big deal because it’s big. What’s weird is I live in a truck town where bigger is better.

Otherwise, I’m completely happy about my choice. And so are my two little kids, two dogs, the Polaris RZR that I tow and my parents boat. It’s a do all vehicle and I can fit/tow nearly everything. That’s what was extremely important to me.

Not to mention the 2,200 mile road trip we took with the in laws earlier this summer. Would’ve not worked with the Tahoe.
I get even funnier looks when people hear that I drive a Yukon xl and that I'm 25, single, and no kids! Haha.
