I'm looking for advice on what direction I should go. We recently bought a 2007 Yukon with the 5.3L. It currently has 125K miles. I have a oil usage issue and I'm aware of the likelihood it is due to the cylinder deactivation. My question is, should I just have it programmed out or should I do one of the DOD delete kits?

My concern is longevity for the engine, and reliability. It's my wife's vehicle and I don't want her to be stranded with the kid somewhere due to a lifter locking up at some point after just programming it out. We've only had the vehicle for about 3000 miles and already ran through 2 quarts to replenish the lost oil.

If I have to go the route of tearing down the engine to install the DOD delete kit, I'm going to replace the cam as well. I'm wondering if I will be able to clean the pistons/rings with something like Seafoam and letting it soak in before cleaning. I'd just hate to go through that much effort and still have a oil consumption issue.

Any real world experiences are appreciated.

I'm dealer for Diablo sport tuners so I added a intune 2 on my 07 Yukon when was having issues with dod and been 3 months with not one engine code or problem! Before it would throw code every time went into dod mode!

Range makes a dod delete I had issues with check engine lights I ended up going with a hypertech tuner and just turned off the afm so it stays in 8cyl all the time

Also to be safe I changed the valve cover to the updated one with the pvc that is different

They also recommend changing something down in the oil pan area I don't remember what but it was going to be to much work for me so I did not do it

Happy to report I had a local tuner remove the functionality and I have not had any oil consumption issues since!

Much easier than tearing into the motor. Just hope the damage isn't already done to a lifter that might seize later down the road. If it does such is life. I'll deal with it then.

For interest here are the spark plugs I changed last night.
