its hard to keep a wheeler as a DD
i dont wheel mine alot like i would like but i have takin it on some trails and some super deep mud holes i have had mud up to the window line and made it thro,

and it isnt everytime something breaks but everyone breaks things jeeps to, and for the record i have unstuck a few jeeps in my days,

but its best to have ur off road toy as a 2nd vehicle

pluss people get PISSED when ur swampers are slinging mud on there new car on the free way after a day of playing in the mud :)

What 99YUK said x2.

I have the same setup as yours. I use the tahoe as the means to get to the trail head in comfort and then play with the Jeep on the trail. It is the best of both worlds. If power is your issue, get 6 horses (or a small block) under the hood and then you will be rockin.

Yeah, an engine swap would definitely make me a bit happier. The 4 cylinder is just fine when cruising around trails in 4-low, but on the highway, it takes all she's got to get up to 60 mph. But an engine swap costs money too.

I've got a wife who stays at home with our two little kids, so my playin' money is in short supply!!! :D

I know the feeling, i built mine over 10 years and did most of the work on my own (of course friends, beer and pizza helped!). I think i am starting to do the same with the Tahoe as well (yikes). But i enjoy the outcome and it is cheap.

I wheel my 4 door 96 with a 6" rough country lift and 35" dick cepek mudders all the time and don't have near the number of problems the guys I wheel with do concerning power or clearance. I haven't broken anything in about a year and a half or so... my buddies have broken/damaged something each time we go out since then. They run jeeps and land cruisers and the Tahoe is right there with them every step of the way. The body isn't that much wider than a cherokee and the wheelbase seems to be beneficial on a lot of the trails we ride in Colorado.
Biggest gripes about it as an off road vehicle is that a 3 point turn often becomes a 5 point+ turn and at the end of the day, because of the ifs, my back doesn't hurt so I don't really feel like I was off roading.
Not going to crawl up any boulders with my ifs so it is a good balance of daily driver and trail rig in my opinion. Some of my buddies are considering changing out to the Tahoe for their 4 wheeling rigs because of the comfort, power, and clearance that I enjoy on every trip.

If I lived in Colorado, I would think differently about it for sure. Here in SW Missouri, our trails consist of very tight, twisty trails through lots of trees that are barely wide and tall enough for a mild Jeep to fit through....I'm sure I would end up with a ton of body damage if I tried to force my full size rig through...

*sigh*

started building mine to but it quickly turned into the DD. maybe one of these days i'll have the time and (moreso) the cash to do what i want to do with it. (can't afford to replace stuff that shouldn't be broken)

then i'll have to bring myself to wheel it, got so much in it already don't really want to trash it... haha

Ship?? :D

yea man, a 4" is planned.... just not sure when. When the suspension flexes, the tires scrape. so i think a 4" will do. Got 4.10's on stand by too
