Marty's is a great dealership - my recent sales experience was excellent. Knowledgeable staff who are friendly, courteous, available for questions, honest, and actually follow up on orders keeping folks informed of status and reporting realistic expectations on orders + completely fair on pricing in today's market. My salesman was Zach Taylor - reach out to him for your next Yukon. Totally enjoying my '22 Yukon SLT and glad I chose to go with Marty's.

Ford came out a few weeks ago as their new electric truck is about to hit the market and made a similar comment that dealers applying market adjustments would be penalized…in the end it really doesn’t matter. There are already dealers saying they don’t mark up their vehicles, but in the same breath they have $3-4k in add-ons for every vehicle…items that are probably 15-20% of the actual add on price. Of course dealers have always been doing this, the price tag has just gone up 3-4x than what it used to be all while you still get the “fabric protection” or VIN etching

My parents got a canyon Denali back in July and there was a dealership trying to add a $1500 tonneau cover!! I asked is it a nice one? And salesman said it’s the cheapest the dealer could find ~$300
We went elsewhere...

You know its BS. There should be a law. I see the local commercials where they take 8 grand off the msrp. And you know they're still making a killin'. Since when did you think a Auto Dealership is honest?

LOL was it unethical pre-rona when I bought a new vehicle for $10k under sticker?

Supply and demand.

We bought two in 2021 and have another on order now, so I’m living the situation, not just idly commenting from the sidelines.

And no, I’m not paying any market adjustments. Nobody forces someone to buy a luxury vehicle. We’re not talking about groceries or a roof over our heads here.

I'm not a lawyer, nor will I ever pretend to be one. But where in the letter does it say they can't advertise a markup fee at all? To me, the letter sounds as if some dealers are slapping on the fee after they've already gotten the customer hooked in on a car. Then... "oh yeah, it's actually $5k above that because you know, all the dealers are doing it. Some are doing $10k to $15k!" That should be outlawed, for sure. Much like the cases where it's significantly more than just $15k over MSRP - like 50% or 75% of the car is "Market Adjustment Fee's". Those are the ones that I suspect GM is really going after in this letter.

However, if the Dealers are upfront and saying they're going to charge $x above MSRP within 10% of MSRP, then what's unethical about that? I agree with Bill - it's supply and demand. When there isn't enough to go around, then those that are willing to pay more are going to get it b/c that's the way the world turns. I don't like it, but it's truth and definitely a grey area for sure.

I also have to think that when the market returns to a better state - would you be willing to sacrifice the "less than MSRP" you would have gotten in years before, so that the Dealers would charge exactly MSRP? I doubt it. I also doubt that GM has any legal right to go after any of the Dealers doing the dirtiest of dirty practices, too. At best, they shift allocation from A to B. Dealers are slimey, no matter what and will always get their coin. Maybe Tesla model is really onto something?

OK - it's late. I'll get off my soapbox. Feel free to tear me apart LOL

I know this isn't the popular opinion here but I had no issue whatsoever paying a little extra to get a vehicle that at the time (and currently) was in pretty short supply. After realizing there was not a new suburban or yukon to be seen, let alone test drive at any dealership anywhere close to me I was more than happy to pay over msrp to get the one we bought. Especially with the looming option constraints on MY 22 models that many are now dealing with. The dealer was upfront about the markup and I said "great when can we come and get it?" Did not feel they were doing anything unethical or outrageous.

I would rather drive a deal than a vehicle I over played for. It's a free country I just prefer the one we used to have.
