Got the JBL's installed yesterday and they sound great. Good improvement over the Bose, especially the highs since they added 4 tweeters to my system. They handle full volume from the Lux amp without distortion. Highly recommended. With the other improvements to my system, (10" JL sub in a Thonderform enclosure and a Sony DD HU) it really rocks.

Glad you liked them. I really think they are my favorite cheap speaker. For the price I don't think they can be beat.

Excellent information. I plan to upgrade with a new DD soon and add a 10" sub under the back seat. Now I think you guys have talked me into replacing the door speakers as well. Is anyone still using the Bose sub and amp in addition to adding an aftermarket sub/amp? Or is it better to just trash them?

Im using a Soundstream Picasso Nano amp (400 w rms @4 ohms) for my JL sub and the factory Luxe amp that came in my Denali for the 8 satellite speakers. I taped up the factory amp's sub wires since I wasn't using that output and used PAC Audio harnesses to wire my HU to the factory amp and steering wheel controls. I removed the OnStar crap since it was outdated and can't even be made to work anyway. Perfect hybrid system. The HU has way more control over the sub and the other speakers that way since I'm using a dedicated sub output.

That sounds good. I think I have a plan on what to do now. Just need to buy it all and have a friend do the install.

Thats fantastic news, Mark. Glad you can actually hear the improvement! Did you do the front and rear doors? If so, did you do 6.5''s in the rear doors too? And if you did do the same size in the rear doors, did the jbl's require any modification?

Yes I did front and rears. The JBL's come with some adapter rings that work great for both locations; no modifications needed. They have metal and plastic ones included. I used the plastic ones for both. The front adapters just screw right to the door itself and the rear ones screw to the plastic factory mounts. Very easy.

So lemme get this straight. On my '03 Yukon, I have the factory Bose HU and speakers. No sub. Can I just replace the door speakers with those JBL's and realize a sound quality difference in my truck?

If your speakers are the Bose ones, then the answer is yes. Keep in mind these are 2 ohm speakers like the Bose are so you need to make sure yours are 2 ohm also. Disconnect the wires and measure them with a multimeter to be sure, but if they say Bose on the rear of them you should be safe. Most speakers are 4 ohm, that's why there's not many options for replacing the Bose ones. If you put 2 ohm speakers in place of 4 ohm ones or vice versa it's not good. Either the speakers or amp will be overworked.
