Hey fellas and ladies.

Any recommendations for this mod.

04 denali xl 6.0.

I was looking to buy the drop in , but decided to post here for before I buy it. Looking to make more MPG. Only drive the XL for family trips.

Drop in is like 60 bucks
Air intake kit is like 300.

Any feed back is golden.

I went with K&N drop in. In my opinion cold air intakes aren't worth the money you pay. If u get one for free or super cheap thats a different story.

ive never noticed any mpg gains from the k&n drop in filter. i have noticed slight mpg gain from a full intake setup. if all your after is mpg try a different tire setup and adjust your driving a bit. good intakes are expensive and by the time you add enough complimentary mods to add enough mpg gain for it to matter you would have been better off just leaving it alone. the best mpg gain ive ever gotten from just an intake is a .5 gain but it wasn't a gm vehicle. these trucks seem to have a pretty good intake setup. ive gained 2 mpg on a truck i used too own a while ago after i spent like 700-800 on a full intake and exhaust setup but i wasn't after the mpg then.

The only time you may see a difference is when you put one on a carbureted vehicle. Today’s vehicles have very sophisticated systems that monitor the air intake. A cold air intake may help a little, but it will take a long time to recoup any savings. As with any vehicle, your right foot will dictate your mileage. Keeping tires inflated and wheels aligned properly all help as well. For me, having to drive it like Grandma takes the whole fun out of driving.

I got my cold air set up on Amazon for about $150. The only mileage improvement I’ve seen is about 1/2 MPG better on road trips.

My 07 Yukon XL Denali already has a CAI as stock OEM equipment. I did replace the OEM filter with a K&N filter.

As stated above, don't expect any significant mpg change with the installation of any aftermarket CAI system.

What are your goals in attaining more MPG? Cost savings or fewer stops at filling stations. If you want to save $$$, you are driving the wrong vehicle. Most, meaningful modifications will cost as much or more than the gas savings they will provide. If it is to reduce the number of stops, the cheapest thing to do is adjust your driving; if you have already done that, someone else suggested wheels and tires. More exotic mods to consider are a custom tune (I have read that tuning for 93+ octane will increase MPG by 1 - 2 MPG, but then you are stuck using more expensive gas) or regearing.

oops! Almost forgot! I see you have a 2004; I believe the 2004s were all mechanical cooling fans. If you upgraded to electrical fans, that should net you .25 to .5 MPG. But it usually requires a tune.

If you really want to go exotic -- and this is for range only, not improving your MPG -- relocate your spare tire (roof rack, hatch carrier, etc.) and replace it with an auxiliary tank. You can even tune your truck to have it pull from the auxiliary tank like the 2500 Suburbans do. Saw a guy in a truck forum who did this with his truck.

Good luck!
