Thanks Guys. I am about to order this: http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm?partnumber=15246518
The fender bracket that has to be removed, does it need to go back on? I read that it was there to "stiffen" the fender.....

Z-56, nice setup!

No, fender bracket wont go back on once you get a battery in there. Unless you got a smaller one i suppose. But duralast nor optima would fit with the bracket. It didnt effect anything to me.

Got the 2nd battery installed. Over on the Avalanche forum, some people fabricated the fender brace to fit with the battery there, claiming that it aids in protection for the passenger during a crash. Is this true? I'm wondering if I should just get a shorter battery so I can put the brace back on.
Thanks

Yeah you can fab a bracket up or just bend the stock one.
That is a fender brace. That is all. (not getting technical)

Heres a stock diesel chevy. Comes factory w/ dual batteries. No Brace from GM

Thanks for the pic. Seems to be very controversial. I've been searching and found this discussed over and over and nobody knows what the brace is actually for. Some people have them fabricated just for good measure and some people say to hell with it, and never think twice about removing it. I'm torn......

No problem.

And dont think too much into it, it is just a GM fender brace. Stabilizes the fender better.

Gm would not of put it on tahoes, etc. and then leave it off on a dual battery setups (silverados) if it was a safety concern. Who better to judge that then a mass automobile maker w/ thousands of lifes at stake.

you could also still be able to fit the brace on w/ the battery, just make sure you cap the posts good. (if top post)

Ya, I'm using side posts so I'll try to fit it back on (the brace). If not, I'll just leave it off, what you said makes sense and I doubt the fender will fall off lol

Just looked at mine, i have side posts now and you should be able to fit the brace on, tight squeeze, but may fit.

Mines been off for quite some time, no problems, fender just as tough as other side. Lol..

Post up when you get it all set-up.
