I depressed my e-brake hard because when I engaged my brake today on a hill the car kept rolling so I applied pressure to the pedal with my foot and I broke something because it dropped all the way and will not come back up, however now the brake is NOT engaged and I am able to coast/drive. Any help with this? My 2007 GMC Yukon (puchased in 2011 with 29k miles is the WORST vehicle I have ever owned.....

Hey did you ever resolve this? Just replaced rear rotors and pads and on the test drive I tried to set the parking brake and it didn't stop the vehicle fully so I pressed harder and something clicked/broke and the ebrake pedal went to the floor and now does nothing. What did I break?

Good morning and sorry about your troubles.
I was able to repair this, however what I found out is when I took it into the dealership they tightened my e-brake so hard, that it dragged onto my rotors causing the vehicle to stop coasting after a couple thousand feet. A few months later I found a trusted independent mechanic who showed me what my e-brake was doing to the vehicle, he made some adjustments, and even replaced the cable AGAIN and now the vehicle could coast for up to a mile if it wanted to. It is generally not an expensive fix (about $100-200) but yes you have to hold the e-brake release and manually with your other hand lift the brake pedal so it is not dropped to the floor until you get it fixed however the brake is not engaged otherwise you wouldn't be able to move the vehicle. Hope this helps.

hey guys, curious to know if anyone has a part number for that cable to replace from the release handle to the top of the pedal inside the cab. My 2006 Denali jsut did the same thing this morning. And fortunately I released it wth the little metal tab at the top so I can drive. But need to pick up the part if it’s something I can do myself. Gonna try my local parts supplier first to see if I can get it there, and if not than the next step is junkyard. Anyone got a part number?
