E-Fan Cycling?

I got my fans hooked up yesterday and have a couple of questions. How are the fans suppose to cycle on/off & high/low. Do both fans ever act independently? This is in relation to the dual pin 03+ models.

no a/c trigger or engine temp- fans off
a/c only- right fan
engine temp- both fans low
engine temp+a/c- both fans high

I think your model may have further control of your fans but this is the operating basics.

Is the fan low or high with a/c only? I'm pretty sure when I turn my a/c on both fans come on low. I let the engine run with a/c and never heard the fans kick to high. I can't drive it now since I have all of my front suspension apart so this is all just sitting still.

make sure you don't have your wires tapped backwards.

blue -pin 42
red pin 33

with mine being the older model there may be a slight difference since you are using a PCM tap for both wires. With the a/c on only the right fan comes on high with a/c. You can start the truck run the a/c and put your hand behind the fans and feel air blowing from only one or both. its noticeable.


I would say run the truck with the a/c off and wait for the fans to cycle on from engine temp and then turn on your a/c and see if they will cycle to high. If the truck cools before you a/c trigger is activated you may only get the one fan for a/c as your system works off a/c pressure or temp I believe. Mine cycles on/off with the a/c compressor. the cooling systems are pretty efficient in these trucks. I let mine idle for like 20 mins with the fans disconnected and it would not reach temp so it takes a while sitting still. I'm sure the answer is here, but someone with an 03+ will have to confirm as I'm sure the newer models have better control over the fans.

I'm sure I don't have the wires reversed.

Well I let it sit until the fans kicked on once the engine reached the appropriate temperature. I don't know if they are on low or high as I can only distinguish one speed. Once they kicked on I turned on the A/C and there was no difference in fan speed. I let the engine cool so the fans wouldn't kick on due to temp and then turned the A/C on and both fans came on at the same fan speed. Then I waited until the engine was up to temp and there was no change in fan speed.

I'm wondering if there is any difference in the programming of the 03+ and 00-02. Since BB did my tune I posted in this section of the forum.

Well I emailed Justin and he said it sounds normal for the 2 pin setup so I'm just going to go with it. I'll see how everything works under driving conditions once I get it drivable...

yeah, I know you guys with the 03+ have better fan control so it may not go high until absolutly needed. I'm sure you'll find out soon with this Texas summer around the corner. Hopefully it all works as expected.

nah man. No such luck. I've put more time than I care to think about into it. My truck runs a lil cool now that I'm using my a/c, but so far I haven't burnt up the new harness.

I am trying to hook up E-fans on my 01 right now. But I am not using an aftermarket harness. I found an 06 at the local U-pull it yard, so I took my time and gutted all the fan wiring. The relay pack clips right onto the stock fuse panel. I even got the pins that connect to the computer. My only issue is that the stock harness is wired for the two negative triggers from the computer. I have to wire in a relay to my AC wire to send a negative trigger to the fan relay to get it all working right.
