I figured. She runs great on it but she is really thirsty!

I've never compared the costs/benefit of E85 to 87 octane, only 92/93 octane, as that's what I run if no E85 is available or costs too much.

@swathdiver could answer this question. He's done extensive research and kept meticulous records of it.

I don't think it would actually hurt the system as far as the tank and lines are concerned, unless the FF vehicles have different materials in them for the alcohol. I think the bigger concern is if the non-FF pump and injectors can adequately support the additional volume needed. IIRC, it takes something like 25%-30% more volume of E85 to meet the energy level of non-ethanol.

Not sure about the GMT800s but the 900s and K2s have the same fuel systems whether they were FlexFuel or not. Only difference being programming, injectors and maybe the fuel pump assembly (varies by vehicle).

A lot of hoses and seals made now are compatible with methanol. Years ago, like my mustangs (90s-early 2000s), the fuel lines, seals, and o-rings in the pumps and injectors aren't compatible and will get eaten by the methanol.

To run E85 on my '95, I had to replace any rubber fuel lines and the pump and injectors. The pump and injectors had to be much larger for the additional volume e85 requires.

That's what my truck feels like when using it, sure beats $10 a gallon for race gas!

I'm about to reset my fuel trims and to do so the alcohol content must be less then 10%, so back to 93 for two tanks while I do that and replace the cats.

Topped off today with 12.5 gallons of E85 @ $2.79/gal. $35.

My youngest son is clearing his 'fleet' out of his work storage garage and tomorrow we'll move his '04 WRX on a trailer to his house. Not too far, just within the metro area.
