I would def be interested in one of these when the time comes. I'm a Tesla fanboy but the X would be the only thing that would remotely be close enough to replace the Yukon. I don't Love the looks of the X though. Large SUV seems like a no brainer with all the space to pack batteries

I test drove a Hummer EV Edition 1 at my GMC Dealer. 1000hp, one pedal driving, rides and handles just fine. The vehicle technology is there and it is pretty amazing. It is the whole charging issue that will keep me waiting.

I don't see full electric getting my attention until a next gen battery is utilized. Range, especially with respect to towing, is the main detractor for me. I'd be all about a plug in hybrid with ~75 miles of on board electric range and the 3.0L diesel coupled to a generator to keep batteries fed when range is exceeded or towing.

So I went to the L.A. Auto Show today and saw the new electric Chevy pick up.... I was HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. GM still hasn't learned that keeping their square wheel wells is more of a hindrance than helping. First off, the vehicle came standard with 24 inch wheels, and the tires appeared to be 35" (judging by the sidewall profile). There was also scalloped plastic body panels surrounding the wheels wells, and other areas on the vehicle that will certainly be identifiable in the future as a 2023 model... Honestly, I was so disgusted overall that I didn't even want take pictures. Even the spokesmodel showcasing the vehicle agreed with me on how ugly it was.

GM pickups and SUV’s have always had square wheel wells- why would you expect that to suddenly change because it’s electric? It’s a style that GM is known for. It also doesn’t hinder anything. I hate Fords round wheel wells, they look stupid imo.

I would consider an EV when they can get the range for towing to around 350-450 miles. When you factor in battery degradation over the course of the vehicle's life, I'll be interested when they have an unloaded optimal range around 1000+ miles on a single charge.

EVs have their place but it is a dead end technology.

They say we need to switch to EV because:
1. Pollution
2. Drilling for oil

EV:
1. The USA will need an entire new power grid to make it work. California for example is pushing hard for EV, but they can not power their homes with rolling power outages and fires. Now imagine everyone has an EV, gets home from work at 6 and plugs it in.
2. You will still need to drill and even strip mine for all these precious metals for the batteries. Not to mention China has the most rights and access to them.
3. See point 1, there will need to be a lot more Power generated and wind/solar will not be enough, at least in the next 20 years or more. This means more dirty power like coal will be needed.
3. Every 5-10 years you will now have a 300 pound toxic battery to get rid of from every car. Some say we will just recycle them… but the US can’t figure out how to reliably recycle a plastic bottle, good luck with that.
4. What about the millions of people who street park, how will they change.

Now I am not saying it could be a good solution for people with small commutes, post office trucks, ups, etc. But as far as everyone going electric to save the planet I don’t see it.

its very clear some of you dont ever plan to buy one, so why put up unrealistic expectations that cannot be met by a combustion engine either

Industry cannot mine the raw materials fast enough either. Just another political scam like global cooling, the ozone layer, etc.

I like the idea of a diesel electric drivetrain with traction motors at each wheel serving as the drive motor and brakes. We've been doing it on a larger scale since the 1930s with diesel locomotives and ships like destroyer escorts, fleet submarines and tug boats.
