that sounds like a very tedious process, about every 6 months I spray the entire engine area with a bottle of purple power and then spray it off with a high pressure wand at the diy car wash. Been doing this for years on all my vehicles never had any problem, just avoid spraying directly in the alternator or getting so close you are peeling off labels. if you hold the wand back a ways it just hits it with a fine mist.I use a wet rag with hot water to wipe it down with a rag & bucket. I also use Armoral cleaning wipes to wipe it down. I pop the hood once a month as well to clean. The engine cover, Aux battery metal & air filter components acquire the most dirt. I would not cover the intake, spray water with a hose to clean my engine.
