Engine Dies

Hello, I am new here but have an issue that seems to come and go. I have a 2003 tahoe with the 5.3 in it. (only thing done to truck is cold air, stage 2 trans. engine and drivetrain wise). Randomly while going down the road if i get on it a little bit and the rpms get above 2700+ it starts to bog down and sputter as if it isnt getting power, usually i can come out of the throttle and then go in a little bit easier and it will go away for a little bit. Last night that wasnt the case, went to get on it a little bit and it sputtered a little bit then died, i was able to pull into a parking lot with the speed i had left, and with the key still on a weird noise came from front left side of engine bay, check engine light flashed and the the dash flashed up oil life re set.... anyone had similar issues? thanks in advance for any help.

Can you get to an auto parts store to use a code reader? Write down the numbers and the name associated with the code.

Sometimes the codes help, sometimes not. The oil life reset mode or other strange symptom sometimes indicates an electrical issue that causes the PCM to be confused. What voltage is showing on your dash gauge when the engine is running?

You could use a tank or can of propane with a hose to check for vacuum leaks at idle around the infamous intake manifold. A change of idle when testing indicates an intake manifold gasket out of place.

Bad knock sensors can affect engine performance by changing ignition timing. These sensors are under the intake manifold, so they are often replaced when intake gaskets are done.

Fuel pump, inoperative fuel tank vent valve, fuel filter are possible.
