I just picked up a '05 suburban for $1k that was totaled due to sliding off the road into a drainage ditch. Front frame horns are bent up but engine and trans seem unscathed. According to gauge cluster, engine has 228k and found a receipt for the 4l60 being rebuilt by a local shop 50k miles ago. Going to research how to swap the 5.3 L59 and 4l60 into my 84 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Seller had already parted out alot of the burb, including the cats and y pipe. I dove it around the block and it runs good and shifts soft-ish but no slipping. You can't hear any odd engine noises over the open maifolds lol.

I tried hooking up my code scanner but no power to the odb port so I can't read any codes. Also no O2 sensors so would be full of those + other emission codes. Oil pressure gauge is pegged 80 key on engine off an running so that needs replaced.

Should I drop oil pan and replace oil pump oring? Do these engines ever need timing chain replacement?

I could do a cold compression check before I pull out of suburban. It has good power, especially with open manifolds so may not due compression check.

What do y'all suggest I replace while engine and transmission are out?

Planning on moving the hydroboost and electric fans over to my 2003 z71 burb with LM7. Blackbear said they enabled electric fan operation when I sent the computer in to get tuned.

I can think of the oil pan/pickup, but then it depends how easy it is to drop the oil pan later in your Jeep. If it is easy, you can just install the engine/trans in for now, if it's not possible without lifting the engine (As it was with a lot of makes/models back then because of riveted subframe) I'd address the oil pan and pickup now.

Besides that, the engine is high mileage as-is, and not sure how many miles you are planning to put on the Jeep, but I'd say it might be OK to get it installed, baseline it and then address things as needed....
